Local Dentist Encourages Kids to Donate Candy
Through Halloween Candy Buy-Back Program

NAPLES, Fla. (October 11, 2007) - Dr. Thomas P. Hale, a Naples-based dental practitioner, is encouraging area-children to donate their Halloween candy in exchange for money through the Halloween Candy Buy-Back program.  This anti-decay movement will give children $1 for each pound of donated candy, and the treats will then be shipped off to the 2nd Marine Logistics Group currently serving in Iraq, as well as Youth Haven - an organization dedicated to protecting abused children and strengthening fragile families. 
The event comes at a time when news reports reveal that tooth decay is on the rise among children, especially preschoolers.   “We’re finding that more and more of our young patients are experiencing cavities, and that’s due to the exorbitant amount of sugar products they consume,” says Dr. Hale.  “The Halloween Candy Buy-Back program is a way to fight that problem, while giving the kids an opportunity to do give back to others.”
The candy will be collected on Nov. 1 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m at Dr. Hale’s office, located at 9180 Galleria Court, Suite 100 in Naples.  From there, it will be shipped to the 2nd Marine Logistics Group in Iraq.  The treats must be unopened and hard candy is preferred.
 “We are delighted to have Dr. Hale and his staff use this opportunity to show local support of our loved ones serving in Iraq,” says Jim McLaughlin, father of Cdr. Patrick J. McLaughlin, a native of Naples, Fla. who is currently serving in the 2nd Marine Logistics Group in Iraq.  “The candy will be a well-deserved treat, and I know our service members will be thankful to our local community.”
